PUNTA DIAMANTATA: QUALE SCEGLIERE

Diamond tip: which one to choose.

Among all the tools for drilling various building materials, today it is possible to buy a diamond tip. In this article we will analyze what are the real differences between diamond tips and the most common drill bits in widia, cobalt or hss.

Diamond tips: how they are made

What differentiates classic drill bits from diamond bits is their manufacturing process. The diamond bit is made of various metals and diamond grain. In fact, the metal powder is mixed with the diamond grain and then sintered. Sintering is the process that guarantees the hardness required to drill the desired material.

The diamond drill bit.

Unlike the widia and cobalt options, the diamond drill bit works by abrasion. In fact, the diamond abrades the material to be treated, ensuring a clean and fast hole. The most well-known diamond bit is certainly the one for porcelain stoneware. The diamond bits for porcelain stoneware are specific for this application. In this case, the diamond is deposited directly on the steel body through a process called: Vacum. In this way, the exposed diamond is always in contact with the material that must be drilled.

Diamond tips for stoneware: useful tips

Nord srl produces top quality diamond tips for porcelain stoneware. These products offer optimal performance during cutting, but at the same time they are very delicate. The diamond deposited on the steel body is always stressed. For this reason I recommend that you lubricate the product either with water or with the use of special cooling pastes. By following this little trick you will notice a notable difference in performance:

  • Cleaner cut without chipping
  • +50% tool life

The water in this case will allow the diamond tip to cool easily. Our professional products for tilers for flexible drills and drills are the FORVK1 and FORVK2

Another important tip for getting the most out of your diamond tips for stoneware is in the product entry. To get a clean hole without chipping, always tilt your drill about 45° at the entry. Once you have created the cutting groove, bring the drill perpendicular to your porcelain stoneware tile.

Do not apply excessive pressure: let the diamond tip for stoneware work for you. Excessive pressure will not guarantee a better cutting speed, but you will significantly stress the diamond tip, causing it to overheat.

Diamond tips for stone: which ones to use?

When we talk about diamond tips for stone, another question must be asked. Which tip does the stonemason usually use to drill stone, granite or marble? We can safely say that the most used tips for small diameter holes are widia tips. But from Ø20mm up to Ø600mm the stonemason uses diamond drill bits. The classic widia tips do not guarantee a clean and precise hole, while the diamond drill bits cut perfectly. Even in this case it is necessary to have the appropriate equipment and use the wet tool.

Also in this case, in addition to the re-trimming service, La Nord srl has been producing professional diamond tips for stone since 1960. Let me introduce you to our FORGR .

Diamond tip for concrete.

Another interesting chapter concerns the diamond tip for concrete. Also in this case a vast world opens up based on the applications you want to obtain. Nord produces three types of diamond crowns for concrete:

  • FORCA Professional diamond core bits for reinforced concrete: can be used with powerful, wet core drills. Our standard features bodies H450mm with 11/4″ attachment.
  • FORLD Diamond crowns for concrete, professional bricks: can be used with manual core drills, dry. In this case we produce both the H170mm version, M16 connection (with the possibility of SDS Plus or SDS Max adapter). Or the FORLD300 version, with H330mm and 11/4″ connection suitable for professional core drills with suction.
