Diamond wire for marble: the beginning
The first diamond wire was invented in England back in 1950 and was made up of beads with electroplated diamonds positioned on a steel rope made up of several wires. The electroplated segment was soon replaced with the sintered one, but it was mostly used for cutting marble and sandstone with stationary single wire machines.
Diamond wire for granite: the evolution
Only in the 30s was the diamond wire for granite developed. The technological advancement of the machines allowed in the early 90s the possibility of cutting large blocks of granite with the diamond wire. The multi-wire machines for the production of granite slabs, on the other hand, are of new generation. This technology has allowed the partial replacement of the famous steel frames for the production of slabs.
Single or multi-wire machines for granite
Today, La Nord Srl serves on the market diamond wires for granite with sintered beads from ø10mm to ø7.3mm for single-wire machines. While for multi-wire machines the diameter of the beads ranges from Ø8.3mm to Ø5.4mm.
The brand new diamond wire with Ø4.3mm beads is now about to be released on the market. This brand new technology would significantly reduce the waste of the material, increasing the yield of the granite block.
The benefits of cutting: speed and yield
Cutting by means of a diamond wire occurs by pulling the previously tensioned wire through the granite block at a speed ranging between 24 and 35 m/s. At the same time, the wire is lowered into the block itself at a speed suitable for good cutting speed and good wire yield.
La Nord Srl threads today have a yield that varies from 150 to 250m2 based on the degree of hardness of the cut material, the length of the thread, the diameter of the pearl and obviously the cutting drop.
Closed loop diamond wire
We only offer closed loop diamond wires. This solution is optimal because the wire breaks only when the tool is completely worn out. Therefore, there is no need for equipment to join the two ends.
