FAQ | Irregular wear of the segment?
This is a really important topic for professionals who use diamond blades daily. After continuous cutting, you may notice a loss of sharpness or a slowing of the cutting speed. You stop, look at the blade, and notice that the segments are worn unevenly.
For example, the segment may have only one or both rounded edges. What matters is that the blade no longer cuts as well as it did before and, unfortunately, it often gets thrown in the trash. (How to dispose of diamond blades?)
But what are the causes and solutions if the segments of your disk exhibit irregular wear?
THE CAUSES could be three:
- The diamond blade has lost its concentricity.
- The water used does not properly lubricate the entire surface of the segment, but only a part.
- You made angled or curved cuts.
- Uneven wear of the segment is often related to an incorrect binder
THE SOLUTIONS are as follows:
- Check that the cutting machine is working properly, that the bearings are working properly, and that the water is flowing evenly.
- It's always advisable (also for safety reasons) to make straight cuts. If you've made a mistake and want to revive your tool, I recommend reading REVIVE YOUR DIAMOND BLADE. If the segment is very rounded, the process of reviving the blade will be lengthy and it will certainly lose some life, but it's still better than throwing it away, right?
- There is a third solution: ask your trusted dealer for diamond blades with sandwich segments: the segment is designed and manufactured with more resistant shoulders specifically to avoid the rounding phenomenon.
