FAQ | Irregular segment wear?
This topic is really important for professionals who use diamond blades on a daily basis. After a continuous cutting phase you may notice a loss of sharpness or a slowing down of the cutting speed. You stop, look at the blade, and notice that the segments are worn in an uneven way.
It may happen that the segment has only one or both rounded shoulders for example. What matters is that the disc no longer cuts as it did at the beginning and often unfortunately gets thrown in the garbage bin.
But what are the causes and solutions if YOUR DISC SEGMENTS HAVE IRREGULAR WEAR?
THE CAUSES could be three:
- The diamond disc has lost its concentricity.
- The water used does not properly lubricate the entire surface of the segment, but only a part.
- You have made angled or curved cuts.
THE SOLUTIONS are as follows:
- Check that the machine is ok. that the bearings work as they should, and that the water comes out evenly.
- It is always advisable (also for safety reasons) to make straight cuts. If you have made a mistake and want your tool to come back to life I recommend you read REVIVE YOUR DIAMOND BLADE. If the segment is very rounded the process of reviving the blade will be long and it will certainly lose a bit of life but it is always better than throwing it away, right?
- There is a third solution: ask your trusted dealer for diamond discs with sandwich segments: the segment is designed and made with more resistant shoulders precisely to avoid the rounding phenomenon.
