FAQ | Steel core wear?

This problem is really frequent for all users who cut very abrasive materials such as asphalt or fresh concrete. The abrasive material, in fact, tends to work on the sides of the segment by “digging” the outermost part.

What causes this: You may have had a used disc with a steel core that gets thinner and thinner towards the end of its circumference.

This phenomenon not only brings disadvantages during cutting, but is very dangerous for the user. In fact, it is easier for the segments to detach. (ATTENTION!!)

But what are the causes and solutions if THE STEEL CORE WEARS OUT?

THE CAUSES could be three:

  1. The diamond blade cuts underneath the asphalt and/or concrete surface
  2. Insufficient water supply during cutting. In this case, water not only acts as a coolant and lubricant but also helps to purge excess material during the cutting phase.
  3. Incorrect type of diamond disc (segment too thin)

THE SOLUTIONS are as follows:

  1. It is necessary to check whether the cutting depth made corresponds to the exact thickness of the turf to be cut.
  2. Increase the water supply (preferably not muddy – this could increase the phenomenon mentioned)
  3. Check the type of disc purchased. As manufacturers, we recommend purchasing diamond discs that have “wide” segments, i.e. where the labrating protects the steel itself from this phenomenon.
