COME SI FA IL CAROTAGGIO DEL CEMENTO?

What is concrete core drilling?

Core drilling is a process that allows you to drill through and through holes in concrete surfaces. This practice is essential in many construction and residential projects . Concrete core drilling makes it possible to install boiler pipes or plumbing systems.

Core drilling is also used in industrial applications. Consider reinforced concrete manholes or large stoneware pipes. In fact, there are multiple techniques that determine the specifics of the job.

Dry or wet concrete coring.

  • Core drilling can be done with or without water. It's advisable to use dry core drills when the hole diameter does not exceed 200mm and the depth does not exceed 200mm. The use of water is essential for holes 300mm or deeper. This is because water provides greater lubrication for the tool used and prevents it from overheating.

Core drilling: core drill and diamond drill bits.

  • A diamond core drill is a hollow cylindrical bit used to drill holes in surfaces. Its body is made of steel, while the end in contact with the material is made of diamond. A core drill, on the other hand, consists of a motor, a double handle, and a diamond core bit attachment. The standard attachment for a dry core drill is M16, while for a wet core drill it is 1.5" (UNC).

The main difference between a core drill and a drill when drilling concrete is the power and, therefore, the use of diamond core bits. The core drill allows the extraction of the drilled material. The extracted "core" is a cylinder with the same internal dimensions as the diamond core bit.

A core drill can cut and drill through different materials such as concrete, asphalt, granite, engineered stone, etc. For this reason, it is essential to have diamond core bits specifically designed for the required material.

Another very important variable to consider is the power of the core drill. Reinforced concrete core drilling requires more power than hollow brick. For this reason, we recommend always asking a professional or rental company which machine is best for you.

Concrete core drilling: how does it work?

Concrete core drilling is performed only after a preliminary scan. This scan allows for analysis of the concrete's structural quality. The scanner also identifies any potential obstacles or materials that should not be drilled. This ensures maximum safety.

If you're using a manual core drill, simply turn it on and drill. For powerful, stationary machines, you'll need to secure a stand to the surface.

Once the machine is turned on, the diamond drill bit will start to rotate and abrade the surface underneath.

We strongly recommend having the drill bit cut. Don't force the cut with your arm. Too much pressure could cause the diamond to round off and require additional effort during the cutting process.

Once you have reached the desired depth, remove the "carrot from the drill bit" and dispose of it according to the instructions.

The type of core drill is crucial for its power and application. Visit a rental company or construction equipment warehouse. Experts will advise you on the type best suited to your needs.

Diamond core bits are truly essential. In fact, it's the tool itself that does the work. The quality of the diamond segment for coring can make all the difference. Only high-quality products allow you to save time while ensuring maximum safety.
